Purpose

The purpose of this course is to enhance your ability to use the theories, concepts, and tools of economic analysis to evaluate, systematically, the special characteristics, utilization patterns, various delivery strategies, and alternative financing mechanisms of the health care system, to ensure that more efficient and effective allocation decisions are reached. This course focuses on the application of economics to management problems and policy issues in the health care sector, and the knowledge required to make informed decisions.

In this course, the structure, organization, activities, functions, and problems of health and medical care are considered from a specific point of view-that of the health-economist.

Significant part of the course focuses on the use of specific methods in the Health Technology Assessment, and particularly in the Cost-Benefit, Cost-Effectiveness and Cost-Utility Analysis, using theory, case-studies και assignments.

A series of articles and reports addressing current issues in the health care sector.
